I am originally born in Canada. I became an American citizen by choice but the government of the USA certainly asked me for many papers, finger prints, and physical health examinations.

A lawyer is usually needed. One hundred answers to questions must be learned. A 60% score is required. I aced my test. I was accepted but so were the 98% who could not speak English; no problem if it is against their religion for a doctor not to examine them; that’s fine.

The government presents 50 citizens their papers to represent the 50 states. When I was presented my citizen papers there were more people named Mohamed that I’d even seen at once in one room. I was dressed nicely because it was at the big court house in Pittsburgh. I can’t say that for 98% of the people.

I was stopped by the Lady Judge who shook my hand. She spoke only to me. She asked what country I was coming from. I told her, Canada. Firstly, she said, “Thank for Becoming and American.”

I said, “No thank you for having me as an American.”

She asked me why I was becoming an American. I answered, “This is the most wonderful country in the world.” I added that my husband was an American.

I saw the others becoming Americans. I guess I must have stood out. If everyone wanting to become citizens of the United States should have at least had to go through all the steps I did. Then it is still up to this country to decide who does and does not have entitlement to be a United States citizen.
